REFLECTION 9

For this final reflection, Madam asked us to choose which the most interesting mock teaching is. Since all the teachers are my classmates and I will say all of them did their best teaching.

Thus, I prefer Miss.Hema ‘s mock teaching which is an English subject and the topic she thought was “Abstract Nouns and Concrete Nouns”. I feel as I go back to my primary school and I also miss those memories held at there.

Well when Miss.Hema is teaching, I found that she is really outing a lot of effort to make sure that the students understand her lessons better. Her notes also were short and straight to the point where the students will easily understand and apply it in their daily life. She looked as a strict and also a fun to be with person. Thus, she can manage the class in any situation with her strict character and also making jokes to entertain her students
.
And after her lessons she also came up with her own creativity idea of games according to the lessons she thought. By these games, she can make the students to stay active and not to feel boring, and she also can make the students to recall back her lessons that thought. This will ensure that a teacher can manage to recall back her lessons through her games and can make her students to remember the lessons in an easy and better way.

I think a teacher should follow Miss.Hema’s teaching process and techniques to make sure that their lessons and class to be valuable, not making it too bored and invaluable.

Thank you.

Reflection 8

Hello everyone,

Well for this week reflection I would like to summarize all about my journey for my Mock Teaching. I should thank Madam because she gave us a guideline to proceed the mock teaching step by step.
At first, Madam asks us to submit the Learning Objective, Learning Outcomes, Topic, Timing, and so on. This is to ensure that we know what we going to teach and what the students will be learned.

Then, Madam told us to create our own designed PowerPoint which consists of the topic that we going to teach. She thought us on how to create a proper and better PowerPoint and how to moderate the PowerPoint. Finally she thought us on how to complete a full report of mock teaching.
For my mock teaching, my subject would be Mathematics and I choose Creating Challenges Method.

And it was really fun when I teach my students (my classmates) and they also learned the topic that I thought them. When I start, I explained them to my students about the most famous topic in Mathematics which is “Algebraic Expression” for Form 2 students. Then, I explained them according to the PowerPoint slides notes. I also give them some activities to know further about the topic. Once they understand well about the topic, I give them some games to participate which is Kahoot and also Group Game.  I guide them on how to handle and participate in that game and they really enjoyed in it. After class ended, I gave them some exercises that have to be done at home.

What I’ve learnt through this journey was, being a teacher is very challenging and there are many responsibilities to be done. And it is really hard to teach some students who don’t even know anything about Mathematics. As a teacher, we should guide them step by step so that they will be trained well in Mathematics and they will have more interest to answer Mathematics questions. That’s all for this 8th Reflection.

Thank You.

Reflection 7

Hello everyone, sorry for late posting my reflection. It’s because I’m busy completing my assignments and presentations.

For reflection 7 the topic given was, “If I am a classroom teacher, how many rules will I enforce? List and explain the purpose of the enforced rule. Well, I think having rules in class is an important issue because, rules can manage and control the environment of the class.
I have enforced few rules which I think it will be needed to handle my class’s environment and also will be easy for me to apply those rules to my students. This is because, some students don’t like to follow the rules and they will feel discomfort to obey those rules. So, I must enforced rules that would be relevant and also make comfort to my students to obey and follow it.

1.      Be prepared before you enter the class
-       Before entering my class, I want my students to have a short warm up about the topic that they going to learn on that day. This to ensure that they will have some knowledge and also ideas about what will be thought by the teacher and they also will be prepared to give some answers if the teachers ask regarding that new topic
2.      No other subject books or notes on the table
-       I strictly don’t like when my students is doing other homework or assessment during my lecture. So, I will ask my students to keep away all their other subject works and clear the table. I will only encourage them to have Mathematic book and things that are related to Mathematics.
3.       Raise up your hands
-        This rule is particularly will be use when students are willing to ask my questions or doubts regarding the topic.
4.      Sit beside other religion student
-       To ensure dignity for our country, we have to be in 1Malaysia formed class. So, I’ll ask my students to sit in between other religion students during my lessons. This will create a new bondage and good relationship between each other.
5.      Speak out
-       I’ll encourage my students to speak or voice out their points or method during lecture. I prefer if my students able to give me new ideas on how to solve Mathematic problems. Hence, we are having a good relationship between teacher and students by sharing ideas.

I hope that these rules are relevant and important for my students to obey, follow and practice during my lecture. These rules will ensure a good and healthy class environment and will also change the attitude of my students.

Thank you. Have a nice day ahead.
Reflection 6

Hello everyone, sorry for late posting my reflection. It’s because I’m busy completing my assignments and presentations.

So, for Reflection 6, Madam Ng asked us to reflect about ‘What have I discovered?’ for that whole week classes. We was discovering about an article entitled, “Navigating the Bumpy Road to Student- Centered Instruction”. Madam told us that we need to find 5 points on why students dislike Student-centered Approach and 5 points on why teachers think it is an effective approach. It was freaking hard to read and understand, yet I still manage to get some points and ideas what it is all about.

That article reflects about the advantages and disadvantages of Student-centered Approach. I think this would be a contemporary approach that most teachers believe that’s an effective and the best teaching approaches. Below showed the points that I discovered and more specific about the questions Madam asked.

In my opinion, the reasons why some students think students-centered instruction will not work for them are:

Firstly, the students think student-centered instruction will be difficult to them because, if they involving too much on active learning exercises, they will never get into concentration   about the syllabus. For example, having too much of group discussion during lecture period might wasting time because without knowing the syllabus, the students won’t be able to discuss about any topic.
Secondly, the students will not able to control themselves if there is no lecturing in class. For example, when the students were arguing with teacher regarding their opinion, they feel hard to get back to the topic and might lose concentration.
Thirdly, during presentation or doing group assignments, the students will not able to get fully information about the syllabus and might not fully participate in the group. For example, during group assignment or presentation, the students won’t have a balance part to present and they only will perform based on their part only. So the rest part that they didn’t involve will not be learned.
Fourthly, students find difficulties to do their homework after they went back home. For example, if the teacher didn’t lecture and more focusing in active learning, the student won’t be able to get the knowledge and find difficulties to complete their homework.
Finally, students find themselves lack of confidence to involve themselves into student- centered learning during an active learning exercises. For example, without knowing the correct information about the syllabus, the student won’t brave out themselves to argue or share information during discussion.

Now the reasons why teacher implement student-centered instruction are:
1.  It provide students opportunities to learn independently from one another and guide them with their skills in classroom for effectively.
2. Able to cover all the syllabus and important topic that never been cover before.
3. Students are given handouts to understand it and so that they can answer the exercises that were given by the teachers.
4. Uses short quizzes at the beginning of every period to see whether the students have read the material that were given to students to read.
5. The exercises are more to critical thinking and brainstorming, and it help students to understand and solve problem more effective and problem solving.

Then Madam also asked us to reflect a few sentence about the activities that we want to apply for our mock teaching. I choose Creating Challenges which will be more suitable for Mathematics. My activities are, group quizzes, Kahoot game and individual challenges. This will ensure that by Creating Challenges, students will be more alert and concentrate as well as will have interest and excitement to learn Mathematics.

Thank you. Have a nice day ahead.

Reflection 5

Reflection 5

What did I discover this week lesson in Pedagogy.?

Holaa everyone,

On last Tuesday class Madam Ng gave 3 sets of questions which was moderate in different subjects. Madam asked us to have a look on the given sets and find the mistakes from the sets.

First it was an Economic based exercise. There wasn’t a proper instruction, no topic and sub-topic were given in that task and my team suggested that the questioner should provide a short note at the top of the paper before giving exercises. This will ensure that the students will find easy to answer the questions and will recall back what they’ve learn during lessons period. Second was the Mathematics exercise which has no topic and example given to be referred by the students. In my opinion, for Mathematics the students need example to do the questions. Without example the students couldn’t able to answer the questions correctly and accurately. Thirdly was an English set which has notes and exercises. For the notes, the teacher should provide clear pictures for the students to view and understand. The exercise was too near to each other without any spacing. I would suggest that providing space would help the students to jot down extra points or even the meaning of unknown words.

On Thursday class Madam Ng thought us on how to presents notes during lessons. There are many ways to proceed lessons to the students. For example, Madam showed on how to do notes in power point slide show. It was quiet interesting because, usually power point doesn’t have that much of specialty or proficiency during presentation. But Madam clear that my thought was wrong and she showed the magical things that can be found in power point.

a.)     The FONTS must be Arial, Calibri or Country Gothic and make sure that we are using only one type of fonts.

b.)    The background should be either black or white

c.)     Theme shouldn’t be too colorful nor too dull

d.)    The transition should be wipe or appear which is from left to right as we used to see in our books

e.)     For quizzes or exercises or activities, we are suggested to research templates on Internet and edit the questions. This method is particularly for Mathematic subject

f.)      Try to use animation that has given in power point to make it nicer or interesting but have to be the suitable animations.

g.)     Picture layout to rearrange multiple pictures.

That’s all what I discover last classes and hope you guys have a vision on what happened in class.

Thank You.

REFLECTION 3

REFLECTION 3

Two teaching method that you think are the most effective based on your friend’s presentation and one teaching method that you disagree as an effective teaching method.

First I would like to praise all of my friends who presented on last class. As I see many of them gave different types of opinion about teaching method. There are some I agreed and some I feel disagreed.

The agreed teaching method was Co-operative/ Collaborative Learning which the students will work in group together to complete the given task.  My friend mention that the students will be more confident to explain or share their ideas to other students.  Moreover, students who is basically don’t interact with peoples will learn to speak out and interact with new peoples. This will build the connectivity of confidence and interactions for the student to speak in front of the classroom.
The another agreed method was Problem-Based Learning which will be more suitable for Mathematics. In school usually the teacher will give a task of few questions which will related to problem solving. My friend explained this by an example which was about Money as that would be one of the topic in Mathematics. She said the teachers will teach their students what is money, types of money and calculations of money, identifying types of money such as RM1, RM5, RM10, RM20 and so on. She also gave a statement that the knowledge will not be wastage as we do use the applications of money in our daily life.

The disagreed statement would be about group discussion which my friend mention as an effective way to make the students understand. From my opinion, group discussion will lead into many distractions. For example, takes more time, simply agree with the others for the sake of agreement, distraction to other topics during discussion and so one. I would like to give an idea to my friend that rather than group discussion, she would probably try out Co-operative learning which will be more effective.
That’s all for this week, hope everyone agree with my opinions.

Thank you.
