Reflection 5

Reflection 5

What did I discover this week lesson in Pedagogy.?

Holaa everyone,

On last Tuesday class Madam Ng gave 3 sets of questions which was moderate in different subjects. Madam asked us to have a look on the given sets and find the mistakes from the sets.

First it was an Economic based exercise. There wasn’t a proper instruction, no topic and sub-topic were given in that task and my team suggested that the questioner should provide a short note at the top of the paper before giving exercises. This will ensure that the students will find easy to answer the questions and will recall back what they’ve learn during lessons period. Second was the Mathematics exercise which has no topic and example given to be referred by the students. In my opinion, for Mathematics the students need example to do the questions. Without example the students couldn’t able to answer the questions correctly and accurately. Thirdly was an English set which has notes and exercises. For the notes, the teacher should provide clear pictures for the students to view and understand. The exercise was too near to each other without any spacing. I would suggest that providing space would help the students to jot down extra points or even the meaning of unknown words.

On Thursday class Madam Ng thought us on how to presents notes during lessons. There are many ways to proceed lessons to the students. For example, Madam showed on how to do notes in power point slide show. It was quiet interesting because, usually power point doesn’t have that much of specialty or proficiency during presentation. But Madam clear that my thought was wrong and she showed the magical things that can be found in power point.

a.)     The FONTS must be Arial, Calibri or Country Gothic and make sure that we are using only one type of fonts.

b.)    The background should be either black or white

c.)     Theme shouldn’t be too colorful nor too dull

d.)    The transition should be wipe or appear which is from left to right as we used to see in our books

e.)     For quizzes or exercises or activities, we are suggested to research templates on Internet and edit the questions. This method is particularly for Mathematic subject

f.)      Try to use animation that has given in power point to make it nicer or interesting but have to be the suitable animations.

g.)     Picture layout to rearrange multiple pictures.

That’s all what I discover last classes and hope you guys have a vision on what happened in class.

Thank You.

REFLECTION 3

REFLECTION 3

Two teaching method that you think are the most effective based on your friend’s presentation and one teaching method that you disagree as an effective teaching method.

First I would like to praise all of my friends who presented on last class. As I see many of them gave different types of opinion about teaching method. There are some I agreed and some I feel disagreed.

The agreed teaching method was Co-operative/ Collaborative Learning which the students will work in group together to complete the given task.  My friend mention that the students will be more confident to explain or share their ideas to other students.  Moreover, students who is basically don’t interact with peoples will learn to speak out and interact with new peoples. This will build the connectivity of confidence and interactions for the student to speak in front of the classroom.
The another agreed method was Problem-Based Learning which will be more suitable for Mathematics. In school usually the teacher will give a task of few questions which will related to problem solving. My friend explained this by an example which was about Money as that would be one of the topic in Mathematics. She said the teachers will teach their students what is money, types of money and calculations of money, identifying types of money such as RM1, RM5, RM10, RM20 and so on. She also gave a statement that the knowledge will not be wastage as we do use the applications of money in our daily life.

The disagreed statement would be about group discussion which my friend mention as an effective way to make the students understand. From my opinion, group discussion will lead into many distractions. For example, takes more time, simply agree with the others for the sake of agreement, distraction to other topics during discussion and so one. I would like to give an idea to my friend that rather than group discussion, she would probably try out Co-operative learning which will be more effective.
That’s all for this week, hope everyone agree with my opinions.

Thank you.

REFLECTION 2

THE MISAPPLICATION OF GROUP DISCUSSION !

What is group discussion???

A Group Discussion is a methodology used by an organization to gauge whether the candidates has certain personality traits and skills that it desires in its members. Group Discussion is a test of your ability to think, your analytical capabilities and your ability to make your point in a team-based environment. In this methodology, the group of candidates is given a topic or a situation, given a few minutes to think about the same, and then asked to discuss the same among themselves for 15-20 minutes.

 The misapplication of group discussion!!!

There are certain drawbacks in group decision making also. The group processes can negatively affect performance in a variety of ways. The process is highly time consuming in terms of assembling the right group and usually a group takes more time in reaching a consensus since there are too many opinions to be taken into consideration. The time problem increases with the group size. Accordingly, the urgency of arriving at a decision must be considered when group decision making style is selected.

Many times, the participants in group discussion making have their own axes to grind or their own interests to protect. These self- centered interests lead to personality conflicts that may create interpersonal obstacles which may diminish the efficiency of the process as well as the quality of the decision.

Thirdly, some members may simply agree with the others for the sake of agreement since there are social pressures to conform and not to be the odd-man out. Thus the desire to be a good group member tends to silence disagreement and favours consensus. The social pressures can be very strong inducing people to change their attitudes, perceptions and behaviors'.

Moreover, the decisions made by the group may not always be in accord with the goals and objectives of the organizations. This is especially true when the goals of the group and those of individuals do not reinforce each other. This will result in decisions that may be detrimental to organizational benefits.

Finally, the decisions made by the group may not always be in accord with the goals and objectives of the organizations. This is especially true when the goals of the group and those of individuals do not reinforce each other. This will result in decisions that may be detrimental to organizational benefits.

Hope my reflection will be a reference on changing our attitudes during group discussions.

THANK YOU.

REFLECTION 1

REFLECTION 1: Based on your chosen school of thought, identify 2 negative points. Suggest how to solve counter those negative points.
The school of thought that I've choose was Cognitive which are more useful for nowadays learning method. It helps to support problem solving of learning and also enhance the thinking skills.

The negative impact would be, educator sometimes finds difficulties of handling students who are weaker to understand the contents that been thought during lecture. I would like to suggest the educator to focus more into videos rather than PowerPoint lectures. It is because images in videos that moving will make the students to understand better compare  to normal PowerPoint unmoving images.

Second impact is bringing attention of students who are lack of attention during classes. Some students wont be giving full attention to the educators due to the  boredom of the topics that has been thought. So I prefer if the educator to have some warm up session for 5-10 minutes at the beginning, middle of lecture and the end of the class. This will ensure that student's attention wont be distract and they will be more focusing on what the educator is teaching during lecture.

Thank you.

MY PREDULE ( KNOWING ABOUT ME!)
Well I'm too freaking  new to this blog...
I know I'm going to crap most of the nonsenses ..hahahahah..okay now I must introduce myself to everyone who is viewing my profile..
Here it goes,
My name is Joys d/o Arulpragsam and you guys can call me Jo because most of them having problem in pronouncing and spelling out my name wrongly..next, I'm 20 years old, still consider as teenage girl because I look small as teenagers..and I'm doing my Bachelor in Education majoring in Mathematics at Unitar International University. Some of my friends asked me why I choose to study this course, its because I love to calculate, love to face risks during solving problems, and I love to teach others who are weaker than me.

My characters are totally different to my age which, I'm totally the naughtiest girl ever, I love to talk or communicate with new peoples, I love to take risk no matter how risky the problem would be, the more I laugh to a joke, the more ill cry for the pains, yes, I'm a sensitive girl as well..I love to make friends and I also expert in making people attach to me in the first meet..hehe

Now, let me explain why I created this blog. It is because, the subject that I've chosen in this semester which is Pedagogy in Education and my lecture (Madam.Ng) asked me and my other classmates as well to create a blog and work out in it by posting whatever that has been thought to us. This seems interesting and also make myself more comfortable to express whatever goes on in my mind during lecture. Thank you madam for giving us such an opportunity to post our thoughts here.

My Goals are:
1. be a good and the best daughter for my parents
2. be the unique and extraordinary Mathematics lecture for my students
3. be a good human being, helping the needy people and teaching the poor kids for free
4. launching a free tuition Centre for the needy students

Let me explain why I choose to be a lecture or called as an educator??
It is because, an educator's  job is not only teaching the syllabus, yet we also will guide and train the students to focus on their goals as well as in their future. Students might have many difficulties in their studies, as an educator we will explain them on how to overcome their difficulties.

My philosophy in education is more deep towards, existentialism which is all about acquisition of culture and cultural literacy for personal benefits. as a good and full package educator, we have to encourage students to philosophies about life and to recognize and fulfill personal freedom, discussion and analysis, examination of choice- making in own and others 's life. the impacts are, students will tend to develop themselves more independence, self- discipline, set challenges and solve problems.

That's all for now..
Hope my long essay won't be bored....
Take Note: please don't bother my grammar and other errors..

Thank you,
With love,
JO.
